The refurbishment of an early 1900’s building at ground floor level, located on the High Street in Bedford, to provide learning facilities for student beauticians.
A major element of the project involved temporarily supporting first floor areas, whilst the existing brick piers were removed and new steel beams were installed, to provide a more open plan environment.
The works comprised management of existing asbestos removal, new underground drainage and floor slab re-instatement, full strip out back to the structure, new mechanical and electrical services, the provision of new toilet facilities, specialist joinery, metal grid and tile ceilings, plasterboard wall linings for Part L compliance, carpet and vinyl floor finishes and decorations.
Externally, a new ‘shop front’ type entrance was installed, together with roller security shutters to ther rear entrances.
A new fire alarm installation was provided throughout, including to the upper two floor levels in readiness for later phase two works planned by the College. New timber stairs were also installed for these later works.
The project was completed on time and under the istandard initiative, there were only five Client snags at practical completions.
