Construction of a new steel framed story office, together with the extension of two existing staircases from the fifth up to the new sixth floor. Works were also required to the existing turret on the Brompton Road/Hans Road corner of the store and the main dome on the Brompton Road elevation. The new office will interface with both of these areas.
Floor construction comprised of boarding on Metsec C sections connected to the webs of the new steel frame. The floor comprised of lightweight composite roof cladding on Metsec sections connected to the steel frame and included roof lights. The majority of the external walls were constructed of composite cladding panels and lined internally. The walls on the Brompton Road and Hans Road elevations were a mansard construction with windows and copper cladding to match existing. In order to facilitate the services routes across the existing roof and to avoid major works to the existing raised areas of the roof, the new frame was constructed on new stub columns connected to the existing columns below.
The new office area was open plan with nineteen cellular offices constructed along the longest elevations. An individual office and meeting room was constructed in the area of the dome along with male and female toilets and a tea point.
